me.man.machine.
A band name that - even 12 years after its creation - can be recited like a powerful mantra. In times like these, it reminds us what the order should be: Me. Man. And then the machine. And not the other way around. We are in a unique moment - the beginning of a new era in which artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly significant part of our everyday lives. Content is being doubly reinvented: Not only how it is delivered and experienced, but also how it is created is new. Suddenly, artificial intelligence is omnipresent and inevitably confronts us with pressing questions. Are we and all that we do and create soon completely replaceable? How much value does human creativity retain when machines do everything faster and more efficiently than we do - is it overtaking us there too? Questions that don't only trigger good feelings. Like the great alliteration they embody, me.man.machine. come back - and bring salvation. Not because they offer a solution, but because they perfectly capture the zeitgeist and the feeling of the moment: Forests are burning, evil reigns, and robots think - this lurking threat encapsulates the first single from their new studio material friendly fires (release: end of July 2023). Instead of surrendering to powerlessness, the song is a call to take fate into one's own hands and set out before it's too late. The single sounds accordingly, with which the band catapults itself out of hibernation into the middle of summer. There is still the melancholy and profundity typical of the band, but there is a clearly perceptible hope in the call to set out.
Barany
A dark melodic cloud envelops your senses after the last note of BARANY's brand new album "Nanztal" (release 13.10.23) has faded away. The international collaborations with producers Dan Austin from the UK (Massive Attack, Biffy Clyro) and re:dasein from DE, as well as mastering mastermind Matt Colton from the UK (Thom Yorke, James Blake, Sampha) have resulted in ten polished songs about loneliness, home and reorientation. BARANY reveals itself to be even more sophisticated, diverse and daring than on their previous album "Lights Disappear" (2019). Memories of Portishead and Radiohead come to mind, but the tracks are unmistakably original. The flamboyant songwriting spans long arcs of harmony and follows intricate plots, filling your chest with vibrancy and authenticity. Whether misty and fragile, or unexpected and explosive, BARANY always have another ace up their sleeve. Both in one or the other case, one can get pleasantly lost in "Nanztal". The door to BARANY's world opens to those who let themselves fall backwards into it.
